A-STEP is joining School of Rock for a 10 day professional development workshop primarily aimed at K-12 educators and pre-service teachers. School of Rock is usually held on board the JOIDES Resolution (JR) scientific ocean drill ship when available during transits or tie-ups. In 2019 the School of Rock workshop will be land-based and associated with a port call of the ship. The 2019 School of Rock will be held in San Diego, CA on September 8-18 and coincide with the first U.S. port call of the JR in a decade. Apply here before the application deadline of May 31, 2019.
STEMSEAS expeditions are ship-based, 6-10 day exploratory experiences primarily for undergraduates from diverse backgrounds aboard NSF-funded research vessels. Students sail with experienced faculty mentors and engage in geoscience and oceanography activities (while also having fun)! A-STEP Fellows aboard these expeditions will integrate with the group while having slightly different, science communication responsibilities. Although the main application period for STEMSEAS is closed, exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis if spots are available.
